Soft Lens Contacts

Soft contact lenses are made from a gel-like plastic that lets the oxygen through the lens to the cornea. This type of lens stays soft and flexible while remaining on the cornea. The tear fluid produced allows the lens to stay soft, thus allowing for a more comfortable feel.

In addition to comfort, soft lenses allow for easier adaptation and usually have a better "grip" on the eye compared to Gas Permeable lenses. They can be used to correct general nearsightedness and with the use of special "astigmatic" lenses, they can correct astigmatism as well. Within the past few years, Bifocal Soft Contacts have proven to be very effective in the correction of both distance and near vision in one lens. No longer does the patient have to be fitted for one eye for distance and the other for near "Mono-Vision". The newer bifocal soft lenses provide great vision and comfort that allows the patient to wear them all day.
