According to several sources, LASIK is now the most popular refractive surgery performed in the United States. LASIK is an acronym for LASer In-situ Keratomileusis, which essentially means "reshaping the cornea with a laser." LASIK has grown quickly in popularity because it is much more comfortable for the patient, it poses less risk of infection, and healing time is quick. LASIK patients tend to have little or no discomfort during or after the procedure, and they generally see 20/20 to 20/40 the next day. |

More experienced LASIK surgeons, like Dr. Lou Probst, are now beginning to perform bilateral LASIK procedures (operating on both eyes the same day). Bilateral LASIK is more conveinient for patients because they only need to take one day off from work for the surgery, and they don't need to wear a contact lens in on eye between operations. LASIK can be used to treat moderate to high amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. |
